Women and men frequently come to me with concerns about how their "new looks" will affect their personal lives. Many of these people have heard stories about patients who had post-surgical issues that resulted in an identity crisis of some form.

I tell all of my patients that surgery should create an enhanced version of yourself, not drastically alter your physical appearance. It's important that surgeons spend time getting to know each patient and understand his or her reasons for choosing a procedure.

Whether you're considering a minimally invasive treatment or something on a larger scale, such as breast augmentation in the San Jose area, you should feel comfortable with your surgeon and your decision prior to committing to any procedure.

Often, patients who are unhappy with their results following surgery are ones who rushed into it too quickly. It's important to wait until you are physically and mentally ready for surgery and are prepared to live with the changes in your physical appearance.

One of the best ways to ensure a healthy and safe recovery is to develop honest and open communication with your surgeon. Consultations provide a perfect opportunity to get to know one or more doctors. It's important to choose not only an experienced surgeon but also one with whom you feel comfortable expressing any fears or doubts.
