When my female patients ask me about breast implants and augmentation in Seattle, they sometimes bring up the issue of future pregnancies. One of their key concerns is whether they will be able to breastfeed after their augmentation.

I recommend that they consider the following:

  • Pregnancy does affect your breasts. They become larger as your body goes through natural changes. After your pregnancy, your breasts may lose volume. You may experience sagging and lax skin, which could affect the benefits of your breast augmentation.
  • Most women who have had breast augmentation surgery can still breastfeed. This ability typically is not affected by your implants.
  • The risk of decreased nipple sensation is minimal. Only a small percentage of women experience it. However, this should not affect breastfeeding.

Not sure? I suggest consulting with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, who can guide you to the right decision for you at this stage of your life.
