When laser hair removal technology first emerged, it could be used only to treat certain skin and hair tones. As a result, both men and women considering laser hair removal in Chicago typically have one key question: "Will it work for me?"

The answer depends on the type of technology your dermatologist uses. When first developed, laser hair removal could only be used for patients with light skin and dark hair. However, the latest lasers can be used to treat a full range of skin tones and hair colors.

In the past, lasers only worked on light-skinned individuals with dark hair. Modern laser science now allows us to treat a much wider range of skin tones and hair colors. For example, at my practice, our lasers use longer wavelengths that can remove excess hair even for patients with very dark skin.

We use the Candela GentleMAX®, which is the first such type of laser system. Designed specifically for aesthetic procedures, this system treats a wide range of skin and hair colors. I recommend consulting with a board-certified dermatologist who can help you decide if laser hair removal is right for you.
