Plastic Surgery Advice Online: Do or Don`t?

If you are in Louisville considering plastic surgery, you probably have many questions about your procedure. While there is a wealth of information about cosmetic surgery available online, the reliability of much of this information is questionable. Some of the content is misleading or inaccurate. Two common sources of misinformation include:

• Personal Web Sites: Subjects discussed on personal Web sites reflect individual experiences and are not usually representative of typical results. Additionally, the validity of these sites is often difficult to verify, since anyone can create a personal Web site.
• Virtual Support/Chat Groups: While online support groups do allow for interaction with others who have undergone plastic surgery, the problem remains that each person's results and experience will vary. If you decide to subscribe to one of these groups, it is best to remain objective and understand that no 2 surgeries are the same.

Finding Reliable Information

There are many trusted sources of information available on the Internet. Two that I recommend include The American Society of Plastic Surgeons Web site and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery site. Another helpful source is Realself.com, which allows plastic surgeons and members of the medical community to interact with prospective and current patients.

Perhaps the best way to obtain accurate information, however, is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon that you trust. You surgeon should be able to explain your procedure in detail and answer your questions with honesty. In most cases, you can request a pre-surgical consultation with your surgeon to discuss your cosmetic options or concerns.
