Surgery for GynecomastiaPosted Saturday, July 23, 2011 to PROCEDURES > Breast Posted by Alexandra Chambers, MD Although gynecomastia surgery and its associated risks can only be considered after serious reflection, there is no way to eliminate gland tissue without excision. Moreover, the fat accumulation in the chest when associated to gynecomastia cannot be removed by simple exercise and dieting. It requires liposuction. So, in the end analysis, if a man is suitably healthy for surgery, this is the only real option for male chest reduction, and what must be considered is the trade-off between the risks of surgery versus the psychological discomfort experienced by the individual. Fortunately, gynecomastia surgery can be performed under local anaesthetic, meaing the risk of general anaesthesia is removed, and incisions typically are quite limited reducing the risk of operative infection. In addition, the operation typically requires under two hours, and after a couple of hours of post-operative observation, most men can return home, and return to their normal activities, within reason, the next day. 0 Comments | Share | Save to Favorites Report Abuse| Rate It: Add Comment |
