At my practice in San Jose, face lift procedures have become increasingly popular for a variety of reasons, from appearing young and energetic to competing in the job market to looking as young as you feel. However, I've noticed several common misconceptions about this procedure.

Here's what you should know to help you decide if a face lift is right for your aesthetic goals:

  1. A face lift can lift and tighten your skin for a younger look. However, if you're concerned about deep wrinkles on your forehead and sagging eyebrows, a brow lift may be more appropriate.
  2. Worried about sagging eyelids and deep bags under your eyes? Consider eyelid surgery rather than a face lift to rejuvenate your eyelids.
  3. You don't have to limit yourself to a single facial procedure. For example, I frequently perform a face lift with a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or neck lift for a more complete improvement. A face lift isn't just for "older people." In fact, younger people can benefit from facelift procedures in many ways.
  4. Hesitant about a facelift because you've heard it involves a lengthy healing process and lingering bruises? When performed by a skilled, experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, a face lift typically results in only minor bruising and swelling. These after-effects usually subside within two weeks, and most patients can return to their regular routines within the same time frame.
