A recently published study performed at the University of Calgary suggested that use of BOTOX® Cosmetic led to muscle atrophy in areas beyond the treatment site. Although this study received a good bit of media coverage, the conclusion isn't as alarming as it may sound, and men and women who use BOTOX for their lines and wrinkles need not worry. The dosages of BOTOX used in the study were substantially higher than those used during cosmetic treatments, and much more research is needed to replicate these findings and determine longer-term effects on muscle integrity (if any).

BOTOX has been used by millions of people for many years, and was the top minimally invasive procedure in 2009, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. When injected by someone who is skilled and experienced, BOTOX can have great cosmetic benefits such as reducing wrinkles in areas such as the forehead, in between the eyebrows, as well as crow's feet. These benefits come without significant risks of complications or other drawbacks.

One of the most important aspects of a BOTOX treatment is choosing a skilled injector. An experienced injector will know where to administer your BOTOX injections to help you achieve the look you desire. At our day spa in Louisville, we spend a large amount of time with our patients during consultation so that we understand their goals. It is important that you feel comfortable with whoever will be administering your BOTOX treatment.
