For many of my patients who have undergone major weight loss surgery, plastic surgery is the final step in their journey. Seeing their new body emerge after months of careful eating and exercise is one of the most rewarding parts of the entire process, and as a plastic surgeon I'm fortunate to be in the position of helping them achieve a look that reflects all that hard work.

Post weight loss plastic surgery is tailored to each unique patient. Procedures like liposuction and tummy tucks in Sacramento can treat the needs of both male and female patients, but the breast/chest is one area where I have a different approach depending on the sex of the patient.

Breast Surgery for Women

Even small changes in weight can make a large difference in some areas. Women may notice a change in their breast size and shape after losing only 10 or 15 pounds. It comes as no surprise that women who have lost 50 or more pounds often choose breast augmentation following major weight loss.

On the flip side, some women, even after weight loss, still have breasts that are larger than desired. In these cases, usually a breast reduction (often with a breast lift procedure as well) is required. The goal for women after major weight loss is to improve the contour, size and position of their breasts to create more feminine and healthy-looking breasts.

Breast Surgery for Men

After major weight loss, men can have noticeable or misshapen breasts, along with excess skin on the chest. Most men who've lost the weight want their chests to be flatter and tighter, without sagging skin, irregularly shaped nipples or fatty deposits.

To treat these conditions, I can perform a male breast reduction, removing excess fat and retightening the skin. Liposuction is often used as part of the male chest contouring surgery. The goal is to create a more masculine body and help patients feel more comfortable when not wearing a shirt.

Thanks for the great article! I have a friend who lost more than 100 lbs. all naturally! He exercised twice daily and kept himself on a very low calorie diet. But now he needs to have a a href="http://www.rocklincosmeticsurgery.com"tummy tuck/a to get rid of all his extra and flabby skin. It is definitely worth it for him though!
