There are many misconceptions about breast implants with regard to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some women who have had a breast augmentation in Columbus worry their breast implants will negatively affect either getting pregnant or breastfeeding. Let me clear up the rumors with the 3 things you need to know:

Breast Implants Do Not Hinder Pregnancy

Breast implants do not affect the ability to become pregnant, or the safety of pregnancy.

Pregnancy Will Not Harm Implants

Pregnancy will not "harm" implants in that it will not lead to increased risk of complications. However, pregnancy does have an impact on breasts – whether you have implants or not. The effects of pregnancy on the body vary, so it is impossible to predict exactly how breast implants will adapt to the changes.

Breastfeeding Is Still a Likely Option

Many women find that they are still able to breastfeed after their breast augmentation. Choosing incision locations away from the nipples and placing implants under the chest muscle are steps that can be taken if women want to try to maintain their ability to breastfeed.

If both motherhood and improving the appearance of your breasts are among your goals, you don't need to worry that the two are mutually exclusive. There are ways to love being a mom and love your new breasts. However, to get information that is specific to you, speak with your plastic surgeon. Bring up your plans for motherhood before your breast enlargement surgery, so that you and your surgeons can make wise decisions.
