As for men, enlarged breasts are called Gynecomastia. In men, as stated above, breast enlargement starts in the early stages of puberty. Breast enlargement can occur in men from genes herniated from their mother (increased estrogen levels), sex hormones, or obesity. Gynecomastia affects 40% to 60% of men. It may affect only one breast or both.

For enlarged breasts in either women or men, it can cause an uncomfortable, insecure feeling for both sexes. In women, enlarge breasts can cause severe back, neck and shoulder pain. Grooves on the shoulders from shoulder straps supporting the weight of their breasts and sometimes in even more complex cases, sores and infection underneath the breast fold from friction between the skin rubbings. Breast reduction is intended to improve the form and symptoms of enlarged breasts by reducing their size and reshaping them. The surgery is specially designed to reduce symptoms of pain and discomfort in the breasts, shoulders, and neck. Developments in breast reduction surgery include the limited incision techniques, including the LeJour technique and the use of liposculpture.

Luckily for men, enlarged breasts are not as severe as women because of the testosterone levels. However, men are more like to feel insecure about enlarged breasts then women. For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, male breast reduction surgery is an option. The liposuction technique can remove fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts. In some intense cases excess skin would be removed along with the breast tissue. This can achieve a chest that is flatter, firmer, and more masculine contoured. The incision for this procedure is placed on the areola border, which is less likely to be noticeable.

When considering breast reduction surgery, suspicion of malignancy is always considered. Mammography is recommend for female patients over the age of 40 before undergoing breast reduction surgery. When cleared, the procedure to breast reduction is simple. Depending on the complexity of each case, sometimes insurance will cover the surgery for women. Male breast reduction surgery is considered cosmetic.

Breast reduction surgery, is a procedure that removes excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from overly enlarged breasts. Breast reduction surgery can reduce discomfort and achieve a breast size that is proportionate to your body. Also, breast reduction surgery can help improve self-image and self-confidence, as well as your ability to involve yourself in physical activities.
