Bigger Isn`t Always Better When It Comes to Breast AugmentationPosted Tuesday, June 22, 2010 to PROCEDURES > Breast Posted by Kenrick Spence, M.D.; Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Breast augmentation, the most popular cosmetic procedure performed by board-certified plastic surgeons, is one of the most life-changing operations a woman can undergo. With hormonal changes, changes in weight and arising from pregnancy, the breasts often droop with an empty, sagging appearance. Other women considering Orlando breast augmentation may have small breasts to begin with. Oftentimes the temptation is to fill the breast with a large breast implant to restore breast volume or to produce a cosmetic effect of large amounts of cleavage and a D-cup size. It is important that the patient tempers this enthusiasm with a choice that produces a long-lasting aesthetic result minimizing the risks of repeat surgery and a future breast lift. When breasts sag or droop from the changes of nature, in general the skin is stretched and the breast tissue is thinned. The breasts may not be able to tolerate a large weight behind them. A large breast implant may look great for a few months but then the breast begins to succumb to the weight of gravity therefore further thinning the skin. For the patient with small breasts to begin with, the lack of breast tissue and thin skin may not be able to accommodate a large implant thus increasing the risks of rippling and bottoming out over time. Allow your surgeon to guide you to not only a great aesthetic outcome but one that will look good over time. Your choice of implant is extremely important. During your consultation we will evaluate skin thickness, the tightness of the skin envelope, the thickness of breast tissue, and skin elasticity – all important components of any breast enhancement procedure in Orlando, Florida.
