At our practice in Maryland, we're seeing an increase in the number of athletic patients who are requesting liposuction procedures to sculpt their body and target those very small deposits of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. These patients typically understand quite well that liposuction isn't intended to be a method of weight loss. Instead, they want to fine-tune their physique so that it reflects their healthy lifestyle

For athletic men, the most common areas we're treating with liposuction include love handles, the chest area, and abdominal fat. Physically active female patients typically request targeted liposuction of the outer thighs, upper arms, knees, and ankles, which often don't respond well to diet and regular exercise.

We often use tumescent liposuction for Maryland patients who need this kind of delicate adjustment. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses sound waves to make small "trouble spots" easy to remove. The procedure is relatively quick and can be performed with local or light anesthesia. Our patients report minimal pain, swelling, and bruising following surgery. Results are incredibly smooth and, when the procedure is performed on individuals with good muscle tone and skin elasticity, they usually obtain the attractive definition they've worked so hard for but haven't been able to see.
