Regardless of where you live, you're probably pretty familiar with the saying, "everything's bigger in Texas." If you're like me, you've probably heard it all your life, and just assumed that it must be true. But, is it? Well, in terms of population, Texas' largest city - Houston - isn't as big as New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. So, no, it's not true. I hope you're taking notes, because there will be a quiz. Anyway, yes, things are big in Texas, but they're not always bigger. That's okay, because bigger isn't always better, right? Right. Of course... sometimes bigger is better. It all depends on whom you ask. If you're considering breast implants, I would suggest that you start by asking yourself.

If you've already asked yourself if bigger is better, and responded with a resounding, yes, then you owe it to yourself to know the facts about breast enlargement. That's why you're here-to educate yourself. That's why I'm here-to help. As a plastic surgery writer, I've found that a good place to start is at the FDA's breast implant home page. If you're a Texas woman considering breast enlargement, Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Camille Cash's site is also a great resource. Finally, I would suggest the ASPS' breast augmentation information page. Now, onto that quiz I warned you about…

Breast Enlargement - True or Fake

... According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty) was the most popular surgical cosmetic medical procedure in the United States in both 2006 and 2007. True.

... A University of Florida report released in Plastic Surgical Nursing in March of 2007 found that following breast enlargement, women in their study saw increases in sexual desire. True. Sexual arousal. True. Sexual satisfaction. True. Self-esteem. True.

... Not every woman who elects breast enlargement desires to call attention to their bodies. True! As Dr. Cash says, "They [lawyers, students, teachers and moms] seek surgery for themselves."

... Breast implants are not only used to enlarge the breasts, but also for body contouring purposes to create a more balanced figure. True. Implants can also be used to restore fullness after giving birth, breast feeding or weight loss, as well as for reconstructive purposes. True.

... In addition to saline (sterile salt water) and silicone gel options, breast implants are also available in a variety of sizes, shapes and surfaces (smooth or textured). True.

... Typically, general anesthesia is used during the 1 to 2 hour procedure. True. Many women are back at work within a week, resuming normal activities in as little as 3 to 4 weeks. True.

... According to a USA Today article by the Associated Press' Jeff Carlton ("USA's only breast implant factory adjusts to silicone approval," January 5, 2007), America's only manufacturing facility for saline and silicone gel implants is in Irving, Texas. True.

So, if you live in Texas, the good news is your breast implants don't have to travel far. And if you happen to live in the fourth biggest city in America - Houston - the great news is you don't have to travel far for a consultation with board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Camille Cash.

I know–the test was pretty easy. It was no big deal, right? Right. The point of this post is everything isn't bigger in Texas, but if you're considering breast enlargement in Houston because you believe bigger is better, you should know the biggest truth of all regarding a surgical cosmetic medical procedure-your opinion is the only one that matters. Good luck.
