Consistency in skin care will make the differencePosted Monday, December 10, 2007 to PROCEDURES > Skin Posted by Kristina Schuff Our skin is affected by all of our every day emotional and lifestyle stresses, including but not limited to environmental stresses. It goes without saying the use of DAILY sunblock (spf 30 or higher) application is crucial to preventing premature aging. Approximately 80% of the visible signs of aging; melasma (brown-spots), loss of elasticity (sagging/loose skin) telangiectasia (visibile pink/red capillaries), and wrinkles are due to sun exposure. Have you noticed deeper wrinkles and darker melasma on your left side of the face compared to your right side? That's typical incidental "driving" sun exposure. Even if you work in an office, UV exposure coming through the windows will overtime break down the collagen resulting in what is referred to as cross-linking. Ultimately cross-linking will manifest into wrinkles, dry patches, dullness, and loss of elasticity. Now, if you are saying to yourself...."oh no.....now what ?! " Well, fortunately the day and age we live in offers many avenues to improving and making visible changes to your skin - on the face, neck, chest, and back of the hands. These visible and impressive changes don't require major down time; you can go back to work and resume normal activities with minimal obvious signs of having had corrective skin care treatments. The most important thing to remember with correcting (and then maintaining) your skin is "consistency". I have gratefully been treating patients for over 10 years. The patients I see who come in every 4-8 weeks apart have healthy glowing skin; with fewer hormonal/stress related adult onset acne, dramatically less visible wrinkles, more taunt skin, and much lighter/or nonexistent melasma. I must mention that "home-care" is as equally as important; morning and night skincare regimens recommended by a licensed esthetician will compliment and treat persistent skin concerns. Which skin care treatment is right for "you"? Upon meeting me at our office in San Diego for a complimentary skin evaluation, I will diagnose and give my recommendation as to the best treatment based on "your skin". I don't believe in cookie-cutter treatments. A tailored and customized professional skincare routine will change the way you see yourself - literally ! It's never too late to start....whether you're in your late 20's or are a "baby-boomer", the time has come for you to take the first step to healthy, beautiful skin. You deserve it !! In blogs to come, I will be discussing antioxidants/vitamins for your skin, recommendations for controlling adult acne, and the benefits of Botox, Sculptra and Juvederm. Warmest Regards, Janine E.
