Dr. Tom Pousti is a highly skilled rhinoplasty (nose surgery) specialist who now has offices in La Jolla where he can see La Jolla rhinoplasty patients. In the paragraphs below, Dr. Pousti describes the rhinoplasty procedure.  He has helped many patients achieve a more balanced and attractive facial profile.

Description

Nasal surgery, often called a "nose job" or by its technical name "Rhinoplasty," is usually performed to alter the size and/or shape and the function of the nose. The exact appearance of the nose cannot be determined before surgery is carried out. A patient cannot expect to beable to select a particular nose since changes are limited by such factors as skin and bone thickness, nostril size and general facial configuration. The patient must be very comfortable with the surgeon's surgical and aesthetic judgment before proceeding with surgery.

The Surgical Procedure

The length of time required to perform the operation is 1 to 3 hours. The surgical procedure is done through incisions inside the nose, so the scars are not visible. If work on the nasal tip is necessary, or if this is a revision surgery, it is frequently helpful to expose the cartilages of the nose and repair them directly. Modern concepts in rhinoplasty include building up the nose to achieve an aesthetically pleasing form (rather than just breaking the bones and removing tissue). Very importantly, the surgeon must individualize the surgery and "diagnose" the nose. Each thing done to the nose should be easily explained to the patient. Breathing should improve after nasal surgery. Often, internal breathing surgery is necessary.

What To Expect After Surgery

There is usually discomfort due to headache and a feeling of stuffiness. Swelling and bruising may occur usually around the eyelids. The bruising is usually gone within 7-10 days as is a major portion of the swelling.

Testimonials:
When I was first considering the possibility of plastic surgery, I decided to do a lot of research into possible doctors so I would have the best result. I made several consultation appointments and Dr. Pousti's was the first one. Before the consultation appointment was even over I knew that he was the doctor I wanted. Everyone in there, from the doctor to the receptionists were so unbelievably courteous and accomodating, I even cancelled my other consultations without even seeing the doctors. Each pre-op appointment with Dr. Pousti was extremely professional and he made me feel completely comfortable with the huge step I was about to take. He was so kind and understanding, even when I was continuously bringing in pictures of what I wanted and repeating it verbally. When I went into surgery I was naturally very nervous, but I was comforted by my complete trust in Dr. Pousti's ability. I told the doctor t! hat I wanted to remove the bump from the middle of my nose, but I didn't want to change who I was. He listened to every single word I said and my results were absolutely perfect. People who I saw every day before the procedure - people who I've known half my life haven't even noticed and don't know what I did. For me, it's a huge transformation and I have never felt more beautiful. I can never thank Dr. Pousti and his entire office enough. Everyone there is charming, sweet, and lovable in their own way, and I would never take back what I have done or my experience with their office. They are above and beyond and I love them all.
