Statistics released by the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS)demonstrate cosmetic surgery for men is becoming increasingly popular.

Since 1992 the fastest growing procedure for men in the United States has been liposuction. Conducted in 1998,the study reveals the number of men undergoing liposuction procedures has risen from just over 5,000 in 1992 to 19,000 in 1998 - an almost four fold increase.

Similarly, the rise in gynecomastia (breast reductions) for men has risen from 5,000 procedures in 1992 to 10,000 in 1998. Facelifts, nose reshaping and eyelid surgery procedures have also risen and, with liposuction and breast reductions, are the most popular procedures for men. These five areas accounted for 63,479 of the 99,031 procedures surveyed by the ASPRS in 1998.

The remaining 35,552 procedures in the survey were made up of more traditional "male" concerns such as baldness. other popular procedures include Retin-A treatment (5,247.patients), collagen injections (4,067 patients), and tummy tucks (2,185). The least popular was the buttock lift, with just 26 men electing to have this procedure.
