Gain ConfidencePosted Friday, September 7, 2007 to PROCEDURES > Hair Posted by The Original Anti-Aging & Cosmetic Surgery Magazine Hair Transplant Surgery often results in a boost of self-confidence, as well as a natural result, reports Sally Waddington. Hair loss in men is a condition that has been around since time began. Ancient Egyptians concocted special lotions and potions for baldness. Julius Caesar popularized the 'comb over' style and wore a wreath of laurel leaves to hide his scalp. Self-confidence can also suffer due to the changes of appearance brought about by balding. Until recently, little could be done to hide hair loss although hair pieces helped disguise the loss, these were and still are often very obvious, causing many men to feel just as self-conscious as if it were not there. Modern hair transplant surgery offers a way of restoring hair to the head, with a completely natural, convincing result. Healthy, growing hair is taken from donor areas on the head (usually the sides and back of the head) and transplanted into thinning or balding areas at the front or top of the head. The finished look appears natural, and can even be done in several sessions to make the change more gradual. This effective treatment for Male Pattern Baldness not only changes the appearance of the patients, it can also lift their self-esteem. A newly released study by acting President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, Dr Daniel Rousso found that: "The improvements in hair replacement surgery are responsible for the increase in the level of satisfaction of patients undergoing hair replacement surgery today." Dr Rousso often has patients who come in with poor expectations of what hair transplant surgery can achieve. Often men think a hair transplant will result in the "doll plug" look created several decades ago. "A lot of men see that as what a hair transplant operation is all about," explained Dr Rousso. "But the transplants nowadays are virtually unnoticeable." The natural appearance of hair transplants is thought to be the main reason for such high satisfaction in male patients of the procedure. In fact, Dr Rousso feels the level of contentment for male patients of hair transplant surgery is above that of all other cosmetic surgery patients. "All other rejuvenating surgery doesn't really change the lives of the patient. But many patients find hair transplant surgery to be the most life-changing experience they have ever had," declared Dr Rousso."I never expected the impact to be so high." Interestingly, both Dr Rousso and Past President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, Dr Sheldon Kabaker, have noticed a decrease in their patients' secrecy over the surgery. Although most men are very private about their planned procedure when they first see the doctor in consultation, once the transplant has been completed, they open up a lot more. "I've noticed that after they've had the transplant done - maybe after the first session, maybe after the second - they will get to the point where they are happy to talk about it. They don't hide it. They're not scared anymore." Similarly, Dr Kabaker remarks: "A lot of transplant patients start off not wanting anyone to know - they are very secretive. But then they tell me that, if anyone wants to talk to them about it, they are available!" For many men, the concept of a hair transplant has traditionally been very daunting. Perceived ideas about the result often stop people from seeking advice about surgery. However, the new advances in hair transplant technology mean the results can look completely natural, provide high levels of satisfaction, and even be a life-changing experience. 0 Comments | Share | Save to Favorites Report Abuse| Rate It: Add Comment |
