Not Measuring Up?Posted Wednesday, February 22, 2012 to PROCEDURES > Breast Posted by Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, FICS By: Richard Chaffoo, M.D., FACS, FICS All too often, I hear women who are seeking breast implants in La Jolla say they feel as if they don't "measure up" to a certain beauty ideal. Although I can sympathize with their feelings, the truth is, there is no definitive standard of beauty. As a plastic surgeon, my goal is not to make a person look like everyone else, but rather, to help them be a better version of themselves. A person’s reasons for choosing to have plastic surgery should be personal and individual. It shouldn’t be done to meet the expectations of others. Choosing plastic surgery to fulfill an arbitrary standard of beauty can lead to feelings of regret afterward. For this reason, I always discuss my patients’ motivations for choosing surgery during their consultations. If I think they have unrealistic expectations about what surgery can achieve, or if they are feeling pressure from society or a loved one to have the procedure, it is my responsibility to tell them I won’t do it. The Real Benefits of Breast AugmentationIn La Jolla, I perform breast augmentation on a regular basis, and I have seen this procedure affect women in many positive ways. Some issues breast augmentation can address include:
When chosen for the right reasons, breast augmentation can correct these issues and give women the increased confidence that comes with a better self-image. It can help some women feel more comfortable and attractive in certain clothing and give them a more proportional shape. Breast implants are available in many shapes and sizes, so every woman can choose a look that matches her personal style and individual taste.

Posted Sunday, April 15, 2012, by anonymous Report Abuse I`m 25 years old, I have one child, and I have the body of a pre-teen. My breasts are different sizes, tubular, I have one inverted nipple, and I can`t even fill out a 34AAA. My breasts didn`t change during or after pregnancy and I was unable to breast feed, I had have a c-section because my hips were too narrow.I have never felt like a women or adult, my face even looks young. It`s hard to be taken seriously in the working and mother/parent world looking like a child. I can`t afford surgery, and there aren`t reconstructive charities or free with insurance for my birth defect. I feel like this is another thing holding me back from feeling like a women and beautiful. What should I do? |
