Women who visit our plastic surgery practice often request a mommy makeover, combined procedures that can greatly improve breast appearance, flatten the abdomen, and contour the body. They also are eager to know how soon after childbirth they can safely begin these rejuvenating procedures.

No answer could possibly apply to all women because each recovers from pregnancy and childbirth at her own pace. However, here are a few general guidelines:

Maryland Breast Enhancement Procedures

If you're still breastfeeding, you should wait at least 6 months after weaning before undergoing any breast procedures. The breast tissue and milk ducts need to return to normal, and only then will you be able to see your true breast size and shape.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

We advise women to wait until they're finished breastfeeding before undergoing abdominoplasty. Also, women should postpone abdominoplasty until they're completely finished having children, as an eventual pregnancy could alter some of the improvements achieved through surgery.

Liposuction Procedures

Liposuction for Maryland women will not interfere with a future pregnancy. However, we advise new mothers to wait until they're finished breastfeeding before having liposuction. Your body has a lot of recovering to do, and you will find that you naturally lose considerable pregnancy weight during this time.
